The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) on Tuesday recognized the all-new 2017 Buick LaCrosse as its “Best New Large Premium Car” as part of its 2017 Canadian Car of the Year Awards. The new-look LaCrosse’s score of 656 points just narrowly beat out the Volvo S90’s 655-point score, a victory earned due in no small part to earning the highest score in the segment for fuel efficiency.

“Thanks, AJAC; we’ve got our happy socks on!”, said Mike Speranzini, brand director of Buick in Canada. “Your recognition for the new Buick LaCrosse is just the latest reason customers are looking again at Buick for leadership in premium styling, quietness, and connectivity.”

Each vehicle eligible for an AJAC Canadian Car of the Year Award is scored by a panel of more than 70 automotive journalists, each of whom measure a vehicle through objective and subjective means over the course of a four-day evaluation that takes place every October at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Clarington.

“Our program is absolutely testing-based,” said Justin Pritchard, co-chair of the Canadian Car of the Year committee. “We have dozens of experienced vehicle testers driving dozens of vehicles, back to back, over the course of several days. This testing process generated 1,384 test drives, producing over 100,000 data points and 1058 category ballots. It’s important to note that every aspect of this testing data is shared online via our website, so shoppers can see how any given vehicle won its category, or how it stacked up to the category winner.”

The 2017 Buick LaCrosse made its debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, immediately earning praise from critics and consumers for an aesthetic derived from the popular Buick Avenir Concept. Wearing the inspired new face of the Buick brand—capped off with a three-color tri-shield insignia in the center of a new grille—the LaCrosse is lighter yet stronger than its predecessor and is offered with a variety of advanced technologies that enhance safety, performance, and connectivity.
