Al Capone was a notorious gangster who made his fortune and national fame during the prohibition era. So what does the world’s most notorious gangster drive? A 1928 Cadillac Model 341A Town Sedan, of course. It’s no coincidence that Al Capone’s car was a souped-up Cadillac – Cadillac was the “Standard of the World” at the forefront of American luxury, and someone with fame and fortune as abundant as Al Capone’s wouldn’t be seen in anything else.

The 1928 Cadillac became one of the first ‘armored’ cars ever built. Weighing in at over 7,000 pounds, it features bullet-proof glass and the entire car was lined with steel. Al Capone’s car was modified to reach 110 mph, unheard of in that day, and also featured a regulation police siren and radio making it a breeze for Capone’s henchmen to evade the law and outrun anyone in their way.

Capone’s reign came to an end when he was finally arrested for tax evasion in 1931. The car was seized and impounded by the U.S. Treasury Department, who then kept the Cadillac in their possession. Interestingly, the infamous Cadillac’s history doesn’t end there. According to gmauthority.com, on December 8, 1941, Franklin D. Roosevelt rode in the car on his way to Congress to ask for a declaration of a state of war.
