All Ford North American World Headquarter Facilities Now Zero-to-Landfill
Ford announced today that all of its North American World Headquarter facilities—including locations in Dearborn, Michigan; Oakville, Ontario; and Santa Fe, Mexico—are now completely landfill free. The effort by the automaker to make its three headquarter facilities zero-to-landfill effectively diverts more than 240,000 pounds of waste from landfills on an annual basis.
“Our global waste strategy commits Ford to reducing waste-to-landfill, and we have made great progress at our headquarters, manufacturing plants, offices and research facilities,” said Andy Hobbs, Ford Motor Company director, Environmental Quality Office. “We are proud of the efforts of our employees worldwide in their commitment to helping Ford reduce its environmental footprint.”
In just five years, Ford has cut the amount of waste sent to landfills for every vehicle produced by 50%. Further, every manufacturing plant in Canada and Mexico is zero-to-landfill, and the number of facilities around the globe that send no waste to landfills now totals 59.
Ford has also cut global water use by 30% over a 2009 baseline, and it is working to cut overall energy consumption by a total of 25%.
