Today General Motors announced that a hatch variant of the all-new Chevy Cruze will be going on sale in China next month, becoming the latest member of Chevrolet’s best-selling passenger car nameplate in the country and worldwide.

A key member of Chevy’s lineup in China since it first went on sale in 2009, the Cruze has proven very popular in the Asian nation, moving 208,718 units last year.

The new Cruze Hatch features a unique roof and rear-end structure, which includes wraparound taillamps and an integrated spoiler at the top of the liftgate. There are 699 liters of cargo space behind the rear seat, which when folded, expands the cargo space to 1,336 liters. The new hatchback maintains the sedan model’s powertrain combinations, adopting a 1.4T top-mounted SIDI engine and 1.5-liter top-mounted SIDI engine. The motors can be mated to an intelligent seven-speed dual clutch gearbox (DCG) transmission with the start/stop function, an all-new six-speed Dynamic Start/Stop Shift (DSS) transmission, or a six-speed manual transmission.

In terms of efficiency, the Cruze Hatch delivers a combined fuel economy of 5.7 L/100 km.

Technology-wise, the Cruze features Chevrolet’s new-generation MyLink intelligent infotainment system and OnStar’s new-generation Smart Driver, as well as built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

GM China anticipates that the all-new Hatch will strengthen the Cruze lineup with its design, dynamic handling, and advanced tech.

GM announced in October of last year that Chevy will introduce over 20 new or refreshed products in China by the end of 2020.
