Mercedes-Benz will be releasing the ninth high-performance vehicle of its AMG 43 line early next year, which comes in the form of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV.

This new AMG model won’t be as powerful as the range-topping GLE63, but it will provide an upgrade over the GLE400, which just so happens to be the model that it’s replacing.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV comes equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 motor rated at 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. While these performance figures don’t come close to approaching the GLE63’s 550 horsepower, it does represent an additional 33 ponies over what was provided by the outgoing GLE400.

In addition to that snappy new engine, the Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV will also come standard with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, an AMG-tuned suspension, and a high-performance AMG braking system. Furthermore, the driver will be able to choose from five unique driving modes each time they pilot their luxurious five-passenger SUV. These five driving modes are Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, and Slippery.

Never one to let the performance of their vehicles overshadow their extravagant and tech-savvy interiors, Mercedes-Benz has loaded the AMG GLE43 SUV full of premium equipment, including heated front seats, a Harman/Kardon audio system, a sunroof, and a COMAND infotainment system with an 8-inch display screen.

“The expansion of the AMG lineup underscores the ongoing demand for performance-oriented vehicles, especially for SUVs,” said AMG Manager Branden Coté. “AMG is well-positioned in the US marketplace due to our nine new AMG 43 vehicles, four of which are performance-oriented SUV models. We will continue to build the AMG brand and portfolio in 2017 with more variants such as the model year 2018 AMG GT R and the GT/GT C Roadsters.”

Pricing details for the SUV have yet to be released, but that information should become available closer the vehicle’s release date in 2017.
