2018_audi_a8_exteriorWith the expansion of connected services offered in cars, more and more buyers are looking into whether their perspective car choice will work with the program they use for music. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work well for those operating systems’ music programs, and streaming services like Pandora and Spotify are starting to pop up more and more in vehicles. This month, Audi announced that it’s throwing its hat in the ring to offer Amazon Music in select 2017 and 2018 models.

This change is in response to the growing trend of Americans not carrying huge music libraries on their phones, but rather subscribing to streaming services like Spotify and Amazon Music. If you drive a 2017 Audi A3, A4, A4 Allroad, Q7, R8, or TT, your car is eligible for integration. All of these models in the 2018 model year are also eligible, plus the Q5 and A5. The Amazon Music app is integrated into the Audi MMI infotainment system, but you must have the Audi MMI Connect app on your iPhone or Android to log in with your Amazon username.

Amazon has two levels of music access Prime Music and Music Unlimited. As the name implies, Prime Music is offered to Prime members with their membership fee, while Amazon Music Unlimited is an additional $7.99 a month for Prime members or $9.99 a month for non-prime subscribers. The money seems to be well worth it, as Prime users get access to two million songs but Unlimited reaches more than 40 million tunes.

We’re certainly not telling you to buy a car based on what music apps it has, but if you are an Amazon Music user, perhaps this new perk will make you consider looking at an Audi at all.
