American Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Will Lose Quick-Charging Port
Mitsubishi has pushed back the American debut of the Outlander PHEV numerous times, but it looks like the plug-in crossover will finally arrive sometime this summer—but it will be missing a part.
They’re Coming: Check out Mitsubishi’s future PHEV vehicles
Despite the European and Japanese models kicking ass and taking names partly because of its fast charging times, the American Outlander PHEV won’t be sold with CHAdeMO DC fast-charging capabilities as it is in the other two markets. According to Automotive News, the US-spec Outlander PHEV that was on display before the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) didn’t have a CHAdeMO port like its global counterparts.
Rather than the port, the model had a piece of plastic covering the area where the port is typically located. So it looks like if you want to charge your Outlander PHEV, you’re going to have to wait awhile.

According to Ken Konieczka, vice president of sales operations at Mitsubishi Motors North America, the company didn’t include the fast-charging port in the US model because it doesn’t feel there are enough fast-charging stations in America.
If this is the reasoning behind the lack of a fast-charging port for the Outlander PHEV, then it’s likely we won’t be seeing one when the crossover makes its official debut at the New York Auto Show this spring.
