American SUVs’ Towing Praised by AutoTrader.com

American automakers fared quite well in a recent list put out by AutoTrader.com. The site praised several American SUVs’ towing capabilities on its recent Must-Shop SUVs for Towing list. In fact, the only SUV in the top seven (yes, top seven, not ten, not five, seven) that isn’t an American automobile is the Toyota Sequoia, and it was listed last.

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT | American SUVs’ Towing

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee made AutoTrader.com’s Must-Shop SUVs for Towing list.

Heading up the list was the Cadillac Escalade, followed by the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, which, for some reason, were counted as one entry. (Chevy tends to link those two together in everything it does.) I’m much more partial to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles offerings myself, so I was happy to see that both the Dodge Durango and the Jeep Grand Cherokee made the list.

The Dodge Durango gets a best-in-class 6,200 pound towing rating, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee boasts an even more impressive (and also best-in-class) 7,400 pound towing rating.

Also on the list was one of the more underrated SUVs on the market, the Ford Expedition. The General got another entry with the GMC Yukon.

Brian Moody of AutoTrader.com stressed the important comeback SUVs are currently making as gas prices fall: “Pick-up trucks might get the most attention when it comes to towing heavy loads, but there are a number of SUVs that can handle the job just as well. As gas prices continue to fall, traffic on our site shows that consideration for SUVs is on the rise. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is now the fifth most popular model on AutoTrader.com, up from the ninth spot in August. We’ve seen significant spikes in search for SUVs like these as consumers hunt for a vehicle that offers both utility and comfort.”

SUVs still hold an important place on the market, and I’m glad to see that their popularity is still in swing, not to mention the fact that American SUVs’ towing capabilities specifically are being praised.
