The current generation Aston Martin DB9

The next-generation Aston Martin DB9 is adopting a bit of German flavor. On the outside it’ll still be the same luxury car: classy good looks well-suited for a future James Bond flick. On the inside, however, the DB9 is ditching the outdated VH architecture in favor of a new platform powered by twin-turbocharged V8 engines from Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance arm.

Though details about the new architecture remain limited, we can already assume it’ll be made from aluminum to deliver more lightweight strength than the outgoing VH platform. It’ll also preserve the same flexibility to facilitate building multiple cars of different lengths and widths.

Under the hood, the Aston Martin DB9 will most likely feature a variant of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that’ll also be used in the 2015 Mercedes-AMG GT. The AMG badge will not be featured on the car, so Aston Martin purists still get to enjoy the classic British luxury experience—except this time, with closer to 600bhp of motivation.
