The last six months have been an exciting time for Buick enthusiasts, as the American automotive brand premiered its popular Avista concept in Detroit, aired its first ever Super Bowl commercial, and now the long-awaited Android Auto update has finally come to the 2016 LaCrosse and Regal.

New Buick Models: Meet this year’s new 2016 Buick Regal sedan

The much-anticipated Android Auto update was announced earlier in 2016 and it’s available solely through Buick dealers for owners of 2016 Regal and LaCrosses that are using the eight-inch IntelliLink system. Android Auto was developed by Google and it requires the user’s phone to be using the Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or better.

“Innovation at Buick means investing in features that contribute to the well-being of our customers, meaning features that contribute to a better in-vehicle experience,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick and GMC Sales, Service and Marketing. “Our commitment to Android Auto is such a strong proof-point of that strategy and we’re delighted to make it available to new and existing Buick customers.”

Android Auto will be able to help Buick drivers navigate around town, access weather reports, construct text messages with their voice, control music, and it will also help keep the driver’s eyes focus on the road and off their phones. Users will be required to download compatible third-party apps before they can use Android Auto. Users will also be subject to Google’s terms of use, data rates, and privacy statement.

Besides the ’16 Regal and LaCrosse, Android Auto will be featured in the upcoming 2017 Envision and Encore, as well as the 2017 versions of the Regal and redesigned LaCrosse.

Buick has made numerous gains recently with its technology. Both the ’16 Regal and LaCrosse models already came standard with Apple CarPlay compatibility and each new Buick includes OnStar 4G LTE connectivity that allows for the ever-so-popular Wi-Fi hotspot.

The only thing Buick lovers could be waiting for now is an announcement the Avista Concept will go into production, but that may or may not ever happen.
