Apple is trying to take over the world—or at least, the electric vehicle industry.

While the technology giant is known for its cutting edge computers, phones, and assorted gadgets, it’s possible that Apple will be introducing an electric car in five years. According Bloomberg, “people with knowledge of the matter said” this electric car will be produced as competition for the Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt EV, both of which will reportedly have a 200-mile range and a low price.

The report itself doesn’t have many details, but it does point out that Apple is “currently developing a large-scale battery division to compete in the very same field as A123.” A123 just happens to be the exact company that created and produced batteries for electric vehicles like the Chevy Volt, Spark EV, and Fisker Karma.

Apple has yet to confirm or deny these rumors, but it recently hired Doug Betts, a Fiat Chrysler “auto manufacturing veteran,” among many other automotive engineers for something called Project Titan. If Apple is running around, collecting automotive engineers left and right, we can only assume that there will be an Apple car in 2020.

And who knows? Maybe Samsung and Microsoft will get wind of this rumor and try to join the race to produce an electric car, too.
