Are We Finally Getting a New Nissan Frontier?

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Nissan has really been pushing its trucks for the last few years with last year’s “Year of the Truck” and recent redesigns for the Nissan Titan and Nissan Titan XD to make them look more like American vehicles. However, the Japanese automaker has left one of its trucks in the dust, the small Nissan Frontier. Small truck fans can rest easy tonight knowing that a third generation of this old model is on the way.

According to The Drive, the Nissan Frontier has not been updated since the second generation rolled out when George W. Bush was still president in 2005. It is a bit surprising that Nissan chose to wait this long to update the Frontier, considering that if it had kept the model more up-to-date it could have been a bigger contender against the recent Chevrolet Colorado and the upcoming Ford Ranger.

We do not know much about this truck except that it will be built in Canton, Mississippi in the same facilities building the larger Nissan trucks. Right now, the Nissan Frontier holds the title as the only midsize pickup truck with a starting MSRP of under $20,000, so it will be interesting to see whether Nissan decides to bulk the truck up, like it did with the Nissan Titan models, or keep the vehicle at a more affordable price point. As more details emerge about the Nissan Frontier, we will keep you in the loop. However, we are estimating that big scoops will have to wait until Nissan gets to unveil them with pomp and ceremony at an auto show.
