The 2017 Subaru Forester drove the brand to record sales in August

It’s not a stretch–though it may be a bad pun–to say that Subaru is on a roll. The Japanese automaker, known for its rugged and safety-enhanced vehicles, has seen over 50 consecutive months of month-over-month growth. Clearly, Subaru has found that sweet spot between affordability and quality that many buyers want–and many competitors envy.

If 2016’s success thus far wasn’t enough, Subaru has announced that August 2016 was its best sales month in company history. It’s also the first time Subaru sales exceeded 60,000 units.

Subaru continues its ongoing winning streak by breaking its previous sales record set in December. That previous record of 56,274 vehicles was significantly trumped by the August 2016 total of 60,418 vehicle sales, nearly 8% more.

Much of that success has to do with the recent release of the latest Forester and Outback models at dealerships, both of which saw their greatest month of sales ever last month. Together, they made up over 60% of Subaru’s total vehicles sales last month. The Outback has seen particular growth over 2015, leaping 56% year-over-year.

“August 2016 will always be remembered as a ‘Month for the Ages’ because it is the first time our franchise exceeded sales of 60,000 vehicles in a month,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and COO of Subaru of America. “These epic results show what our franchise is capable of achieving and is the outcome of the dedicated efforts of our retailers who made these record-setting sales possible.”

Other vehicles which rose in sales last month include the Legacy, while the Impreza and BRZ both dipped significantly. Perhaps customers are waiting around for the next model years to be released.
