General Motors CEO Mary Barra told USA Today last week that she believes her company is “among the leaders” in autonomous vehicle technology. Her reasoning for this bold statement has a lot to do with the continued development of Cadillac’s Super Cruise technology, but Barra also made it a point to mention that GM is undertaking “a lot of efforts that are confidential.”

Earlier this month, Barra confirmed at an investors meeting that General Motors will be utilizing autonomous 2017 Chevrolet Volts—utilizing that same Super Cruise technology—for its Warren Technical Center. It was also confirmed that the 2017 Cadillac CT6 would be the first commercial model to offer Super Cruise, which Barra says will involve “a very creative way to make sure the driver is alert and involved in the driving process.”

In the interview, Barra also acknowledges that Apple has the potential to be a competitor in the automotive industry and states that vehicle hacking is “a real concern” that the company is guarding itself against with future vehicles.
