One of the world’s most popular automotive museums just announced plans for a major expansion.

The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, expects to start construction in 2021 on an addition that will provide extra space for offices and exhibits. Architectural plans should be available sometime next year, according to NCM Executive Director Wendell Strode’s presentation at the museum’s annual bash.

The museum also has an option to buy 205 more acres for the NCM Motorsports Park Complex across the streets. That option expires this year, so the museum is planning to move ahead with the land purchase. With the purchase, the Motorsports Park will grow to a total of 425 acres.

There’s more: The NCM is also planning to build a 30,000-square-foot building — and possibly other facilities — in the Motorsports Business Park in front of the complex. Strode said condos, or “Autominiums,” might go up there, too.

In other news from the annual bash, a new exhibit called “Chevrolet Racing: Louis to Le Mans” is coming to the NCM. It will feature a 1910 Buick Bug driven by Louis Chevrolet along with a selection of Corvettes that have won at Le Mans.

Finally, the NCM released its attendance and financial numbers for 2017. Attendance increased to 228,744 for the museum and 60,840 for the motorsports park. It was the NCM’s third straight year of increased attendance. Meanwhile, the museum totaled $17 million in revenue for the year, along with $14.7 million in expenses. The motorsports park brought in $1.8 million and had $3.7 million in expenses when its lease and services from the NCM were factored in.
