Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford will retire as volunteer Chair of the Detroit Economic Club after more than 12 years of serving. He will be succeeded in his role by DTE Energy Chairman and CEO Gerry Anderson.

As volunteer Chair, Ford helped the DEC launch the Young Leaders program and Career Readiness Academy, expand the Educational Outreach program, and host The National Summit.

“I believe strongly in the mission of the Detroit Economic Club as it serves as a point of pride and promise for Detroit and plays an important role as the region works to reinvent itself,” said Ford.  “I am particularly proud of the progress the Club has made through the Young Leaders program, which is helping engage and develop our next generation of leaders here at home.”

Ford will yield his position to Anderson this July at the DEC’s annual Chairman’s Dinner.  Anderson was named the CEO of DTE Energy in 2010 and Chairman in 2011, and he has been involved in Detroit-based civic and community activities throughout his career.

“The DEC serves an important role, especially as a key platform for the discussion of important national and international issues,” Anderson said.  “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Club’s continued growth and programming during a remarkable time in Detroit’s history.”

The Detroit Economic Club has 3,800 current members and hosts more than 30 events every year. Past speakers for the DEC include Fortune 100 CEOs and politicians.
