Introduction

The BMW 5 Series was first introduced in 1972, and it quickly set the standard for premium sport sedans. Even today, the 5 Series continues to establish itself as one of BMW’s top selling cars, making it the pinnacle of performance, luxury, and spaciousness.

Early History

The 5 Series is a mid-size sedan that is manufactured all across the globe, including Dingolfing, Germany; Rosslyn, South Africa; and Toluca, Mexico, among other BMW assembly plants. It first entered production in 1972, when the E12 5 Series became the first vehicle to bear the 5 Series name. The 5 Series was introduced to replace the BMW New Class around the world.
