The BMW Concept X5 eDrive is sure to wow audiences at the NYIAS.

Sometimes, two things just go together perfectly: Chocolate and peanut butter, sriracha and everything, Kim and Yeezy. BMW has gathered up two of its technologies—eDrive and xDrive—and brought them together under one sexy roof. That roof, belonging to the BMW Concept X5 eDrive, will make sweet harmony for the first time this week at the New York International Auto Show 2014.

The BMW Concept X5 eDrive and its slightly unwieldy name look to wow the assembled masses in New York with performance that is anything but cumbersome. The concept utilizes a drive system with a 245-horsepower four-cylinder engine mated to a 95-horsepower electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, generating the power needed to get the most out of BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system and the efficiency of intelligent hybrid technology that allows travel of up to 19 miles on a single charge without using a single drop of fuel.

While the BMW Concept X5 eDrive is making its North American debut, it is not an entirely new model: the X5 eDrive originally debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and it appears that very little has changed in the time since apart from some minute aesthetic details. What may have potentially changed in the time since its first appearance is BMW’s stance on bringing a production version to the masses. Is it possible that the Spartanburg, South Carolina BMW plant, which was recently the recipient of a $1 billion investment, could house production for a newer and more efficient addition to the X5 lineup? Perhaps we’ll find out more in the days to come.
