BMW Halts Production of the M3
The M3 Coupe embodied everything BMW stands for as an automaker: elite performance, bold styling and unrivaled luxury, but all good things must come to an end. BMW announced that it has ceased production on the M3 Coupe.
After 6 years of sales, BMW will no longer be making the M3 Coupe.
The brief, six-year love affair between the M3 and performance enthusiasts began in 2007 and has seen the production of more than 40,000 units. Although we will see fewer and fewer M3’s on the road, BMW plans to continue the success the sporty coupe has had on the racetrack.

The M3 swept the 2012 German Touring Car Masters (DTM) and earned seven victories in its final season in the American Le Mans Series. It also lead the BMW Team RLL to five titles in just two seasons.
As fewer new M3 Coupes will be available at dealers, drivers still have a chance to drive an M3 if they opt for the convertible variant, which will remain in production until September 2013.
Does the end of production on the M3 signify the passing of an icon, or is six years not long enough to warrant that distinction?
