Marco Wittman was first to the checkered flag at DTM Budapest, marking his second win in only three races this season as well as BMW’s 61st win in the history of DTM.

This put Wittmann and his trusty new Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM at the head of the Drivers’ Championship by a 50 point margin ahead of his home race at the Norisring at the end of the month.

Fellow BMW driver and former 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler also secured a podium finish, though unlike Wittmann who had started on the front row of the grid, Splenger had begun the race in ninth place and on slower tires. When he finally swapped for softer rubber tires, he charged through the field and managed to place himself and secure an impressive third position.

Two BMW Motorsport DTM rookies also scored points at DTM Budapest. Maxime Martin in the Samsung BMW M4 finished sixth and António Félix da Costa finished eighth. With four top 10 finishes, BMW scored valuable points in the Manufacturers’ Championship.

“That was a very intense race against a great backdrop, in which Marco Wittmann once again put on an absolutely outstanding display,” said Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsports Director. “He dominated the race right from the start and stayed clear of trouble at all times. Marco is incredibly strong this season and it is a joy to watch him from the pit wall.”
