BMW is launching a new Smart Charging App that could help BMW i customers save as much as $400 every year on their electric bills. It integrates directly into the existing BMW i Remote App available to all Android and iOS device users, making BMW the first automotive manufacturer to offer this kind of automated and fully integrated service.

Through the BMW Smart Charging App, BMW i owners will be able to automate their charging strategy days or even weeks ahead of time. They’ll also have access to energy rates, optimal charging times, and charging cost transparency via a national energy rate database hosted by BMW’s software company partner, Genability.

By linking the BMW ConnectedDrive interface through the i Remote App, owners will be able to precondition the interior temperature of their BMW i3, see vehicle status information, view actual charging times and costs, and remotely adjust charging settings.
