The Engine of the BMW X5

The 3.0-liter turbocharged engine is just one of the BMW X5 engine options.

In order to match the needs of different drivers, the 2013 X5 has five different trim levels: xDrive35i, xDrive35i Premium, xDrive35i Sport Activity, xDrive35d and xDrive50i. The BMW “xDrive” indicates the vehicle comes standard with all-wheel drive. The last two numbers and paired letter indicate the type of engine that powers the X5. Let’s take a look at the different options.

The standard xDrive35i models are powered by BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged engine delivering 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft. of torque. The Sport Activity package increases output to 315 horsepower and 330 lb-ft. of torque. Upgrading to the xDrive50i gives drivers a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine for more power. The xDrive35d model features a diesel-powered 3.0-liter turbocharged engine for optimum fuel efficiency.

Features of the 2013 BMX X5 include everything from 18-inch wheels to cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a 10-speaker audio system.
