BMW’s Z4s Post at Lime Rock Le Mans Race
The American Le Mans Series resumed competition with its Lime Rock Park event, the American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix, this past Saturday, July 6 in Lakeville, Connecticut. When all was said and done, it turned out to be an excellent day for BMW and the newly-minted BMW Z4 GTE.
Dirk Müller and John Edwards, co-drivers of the No. 56 BMW Z4 GTE, won the race from the pole position. In so doing, Müller increases his lead in the ALMS GT standings by 20 points, bringing him to a total of 62 points with six races left in the season.
Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin, the duo behind the No. 55 Z4 GTE, looked extremely impressive in a fourth place finish on a day where the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team’s BMWs held sway at the top of the pack for nearly the entire event.
The performance also resulted in moving BMW Team RLL into a tie for a share of the GT Team Standings lead and solidified BMW’s charge toward the top spot in the GT Manufacturer’s Championship.
Action for the RLL BMWs and the rest of the field in the American Le Mans Series is set to resume July 19-21 at the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix weekend. Qualifying and Race coverage will be available on ESPN2 and ESPN3 through Xbox Live.
