Corvette assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky

Bowling Green is a beautiful city tucked away in the hills of Kentucky. Don’t let all the natural beauty fool you, however, as this city is a manufacturing powerhouse. It is the home of General Motors’ Corvette Assembly Plant, as well as the National Corvette Museum. You can see the Corvette’s influence all around, with shops, streets, and restaurants carrying names referring to the iconic vehicle.

Last week, General Motors gave back to the city that has been its host for so many years. Several local non-profits and charities gathered together on Wednesday to hear GM’s Plant City Grants program announce where their funds will go for the fifth year in a row. A total of $75,000 was given this year to fund projects desperately needed by the community, led by 11 different organizations. Recipients included the United Way of South Central Kentucky and Barren River Area Safe Space.

In addition to monetary contributions, over 80 employees donated their time on Wednesday performing work to help others. They pitched in at St. Vincent DePaul, Kentucky Legal Aid, New Beginnings Therapeutic Riding, and more.

It’s great to see GM pitching in to help in the cities where its plants are located. To date, the Plant City Grants Program has given more than $325,000 to local organizations and Habitat for Humanity over the past five years.
