Bryan Nesbitt Named Head of Design for Buick, Opel

There’s a sentiment that it’s better to be loved or hated than it is to be forgettable, and that holds particularly true in the world of automotive design. It’s no doubt that one of the most divisive car designs of the past 15 years is that of the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the retro-wagon that was quite the rage in the early 2000s and died along with “Old Chrysler” in 2009.
Now the man behind the PT Cruiser’s infamous form, designer Bryan Nesbitt, has stepped in as head of design for Buick and Opel, taking over for Mark Adams as of June 1st.
Nesbitt is responsible for the design of the PT Cruiser, as well as the 2013 Cadillac ATS and 2008 Buick Enclave
Nesbitt has been with General Motors since 2001 and is responsible for heading the teams responsible for the 2008 Buick Enclave, 2013 Cadillac ATS, and 2014 Escalade among other designs.
Nesbitt recently spent four years heading up design for GM international ops and GM China, and he also served as the executive director of design for GM Europe in the mid-2000s and as the brand chief of Cadillac for seven months between 2009 and 2010.
Smith has been in charge of Buick and Cadillac since September 2013, and he will remain executive director for Cadillac as it prepares to launch upwards of eight new vehicles in the next five years.
Taking over for Nesbitt in the position of VP of design for GM China is Ken Parkinson.
