X Games Bucky LasekYou might recognize Bucky Lasek as an ESPN X Games legend and the star of the ever-so-slightly sexist “The Ride of Her Life” ad for the 2015 Subaru WRX STI. This past weekend, Lasek combined his X Games legacy and his connection to the Subaru WRX STI as he took home his 20th X Games medal at the Rallycross event at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Not only was the silver medal Lasek’s 20th in his X Games career, but it was also the 14th earned by Subaru Rallycross drivers in X Games history.

X GamesLasek was emotional after carrying the 600-horsepower WRX STI Rallycross car to a second-place finish, his best since joining Subaru Rally Team USA in 2012.

“It was intense—that was the hardest fought medal that I’ve ever worked for,” said Lasek. “It brings me to tears; I’m just holding them back. My team gets more credit than I do, they’re ability to give us the proper setup and quickly repair car damage is what got me here. We’re making it happen race to race.”

X GamesLasek’s finish came in the deepest field in X Games RallyCross history, with 19 drivers from five different factory teams. Lasek fought back from a final-round back row starting position, finishing just behind Scott Speed and ahead of Nelson Piquet Jr.

Event favorite and Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana failed to advance out o the semis despite putting up the fastest qualifying lap. Nonetheless, he was happy for his teammate.

“As the track dried up so did my speed,” joked Pastrana. “Thanks to everyone at Subaru and Vermont SportsCar for the epic car and all the work. I’m so happy for my teammate Bucky (Lasek), it was a stellar drive!”
