Buick Colors Draw Inspiration from Food

Buick says that it draws a lot of its inspiration for new vehicles like the 2016 Enclave and Cascada convertible from food. We’re not saying that its designers and engineers had their ah-ha moments of brilliance after a nourishing meal. We’re saying that there are literally aspects of Buick vehicles that are inspired by edible things.

For example, the Buick Avenir concept boasts a striking Crystalline exterior that you might notice carrying some green undertones. Well, per Buick, that green was inspired by an artichoke. Yep.

“Artichokes have a beautiful color,” said Krysti Murphy, creative designer, Buick Color and Trim. “When we look at that type of vegetable, we take the green tones and desaturate them, creating more of a silvery green by adding metallic flakes. This creates a richer, more wearable color.”

Well, on the bright side, the color is much better than the shape. Imagine an artichoke-shaped Buick. That probably would not sell particularly well.

More obvious food influences would be the Choccachino interior available with the new Enclave and the Toasted Coconut Metallic exterior hue for the Cascada. Buick does this because, per a PPG Industries study, 60% of new vehicle shoppers consider color as a primary factor when shopping for a new car. And if the color of a Buick makes you hungry, well, we guess it’d probably make you at least a bit more likely to buy it.
