We’ve been hoping for some type of Buick convertible for a really long time. Back in April, we caught wind that a Buick convertible would quite possibly be coming our way. Then, in July, we reported that it was super likely we’d be getting said convertible, and it would likely be the Opel Cascada, rebadged as a Buick. And though General Motors has been mum on the whole ordeal, sources within the dealer network confirmed about a month ago that the convertible would indeed be coming to the US and would indeed bear the Cascada name.

These sources were able to confirm this news, as General Motors reportedly showed off the new Buick convertible during a meeting in Detroit last month to a host of Buick dealers. Now, two sources from that meeting are reporting to Automotive News that the Buick Cascada is “nearly identical to the Opel version.”

The Opel Cascada rides on the same platform as the Buick Verano, but is longer and wider by an inch both ways. While GM released no info to the dealers on the powertrain lineup, it’s likely to be similar to the Opel Cascada’s, which includes a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, 1.6-liter turbo engine, or a 2.0-liter diesel engine.

The Buick Cascada is likely to launch here in the US late next year as a 2016 model.
