Buick Is Only US Brand in Consumer Reports Vehicle Reliability Top Ten
This year’s Consumer Reports vehicle reliability study results were recently released, and only one domestic automaker broke the top ten: Buick. Leave it to Buick to defend American engineering. Unfortunately, no other American automaker breached the top 10, though the Lincoln luxury brand showed the greatest improvement, leaping to 15th from 27th.
Meanwhile, Japanese automakers dominated the list, taking the top four spots: Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, and Honda. Audi represented Germany in fifth place, and Buick rang in at number six. Following Buick were Subaru, Porsche, Scion, and Kia to round out the top ten.
To generate results for the Consumer Reports vehicle reliability study, the magazine conducted its own tests and relied on information provided by its readers on over 1 million new vehicles.
In the study, Consumer Reports found that infotainment systems caused the largest issues. The more complex an infotainment system, the more issues drivers had with the vehicle overall. This could possibly be a flaw in the testing, however, as many drivers unfamiliar with the technology likely reported their vehicle was unreliable when they couldn’t get the technology to operate. Lack of knowledge on operating technology should not be confused with inability to operate a vehicle because it is not reliable.
Either way, we are pleased to see that Buick at least represented our country well in the study. Hopefully next year, the United States will be represented a little more fully.
