Buick and MapMyFitness announced a partnership yesterday for the national “Runs Worth the Drive” Challenge. MapMyFitness app users logged over 500 million miles of walking/running last year in the U.S. alone, and, according to a recent survey, a whopping 71 percent of those app users reported that they drove to a specific location to begin their workouts, making a partnership between car company Buick and MapMyFitness a logical move.

The “Runs Worth the Drive” Challenge that resulted from the collaboration will begin Thursday, June 26. The six-week challenge requires that participants log five miles of running each week. The results will be tracked on a virtual leaderboard at MapMyFitness.com. Every run of five minutes or more will automatically be logged into the participant’s profile to count toward the five-mile weekly total and the overall 30-mile total.

Weekly prizes will be doled out, but the grand prize will be given to one lucky participant who successfully achieves the goal. The grand prize includes an all-expense paid trip to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & Half-Marathon in Phoenix, Arizona.

“We know personal lifestyle activities play an important role in the decision process when consumers are shopping for a new vehicle,” said Sandra Moore, Buick marketing director. “This challenge provides a fun opportunity for us to help MapMyFitness members share their passion with the community and at the same time see how the Verano is ideally suited for them.”

The Buick Verano Turbo is a great choice for city dwellers with an active lifestyle. Not only is it compact, but it also has an interior that has been designed to resist the effects of things like sunscreen, bug spray, and post-workout sweat. Not to mention, it, like the runners that drive it, is incredibly powerful, delivering 250 horsepower from its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

One grand prize winner will go to Phoenix for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & Half Marathon.

“Based on a recent survey within our MapMyFitness community, 87 percent of members choose and purchase vehicles to fit their active lifestyles,” said Robin Thurston, President at MapMyFitness. “The interests of our users and the Buick Verano attributes make the ‘Runs Worth the Drive Challenge’ an ideal avenue to reach and motivate fitness audiences for both companies.”
