Buick Outlines Safety Features Present on 2016 Cascada
The 2016 Buick Cascada convertible will be arriving early next year, and Buick is talking up its well-tested safety in addition to its fresh style.
Among the features that ensure the safety of those driving and riding in the Cascada are spring-loaded and pyrotechnically-activated roll bars behind the front seats that are linked to the airbag systems. The roll bar can be stowed below the “belt line” of the vehicle, along with the top and the folding mechanism, which gives the Cascada a sleek profile when the top is down.
“Intelligent design is a hallmark of Buick’s renaissance and the all-new Cascada advances that legacy with seamless integration of great convertible design and safety,” said Holt Ware, Buick exterior design director. “It’s a design that fosters the Cascada’s clean, uninterrupted lines while helping enable confident, top-down driving enjoyment.
“There are no design compromises with the Cascada,” Ware added. “The structural elements enhance the driving experience, not intrude on it.”
In the event of an accident, the roll bars deploy 14 inches to protect those within the vehicle. Other forward-thinking safety elements include reinforced rocker panels, X-braces and V-braces on the underbody, and a “torsion box” bulkhead.
Advanced safety features include Lane Departure Warning, Rear Park Assist, and a rearview camera.
