The Buick Enspire all-electric concept SUV

An all-electric concept crossover SUV is the latest step in GM’s push to bring green Buick vehicles to the Chinese market.

The aerodynamic, sculpted Buick Enspire concept was revealed for the first time today.  It will go on display from April 25 to May 4 at the Auto China 2018 show in Beijing.

The Enspire concept is equipped with Buick’s eMotion electric propulsion technology. This system generates the equivalent of 550 horsepower and allows the Enspire to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds.

The Enspire has a range of 370 miles. It can be charged wirelessly, and fast-charging capability can bring its battery up to 80% capacity in 40 minutes.

The Enspire’s interior design features suspended theater-type seating, a spacious feel, and a center console and armrests made with microfiber suede and natural wood grain.

Also featured in the Enspire concept are advanced technologies like an OLED display screen, an intelligent augmented reality technology-based heads-up display system, and a 5G super high-speed network concept.

When the Enspire is brought to production, it’s not clear whether it will be made available in the United States. In 2015, GM filed a U.S. application to trademark the “Enspire” name.

As part of the “Buick Blue” strategy, GM is introducing high-efficiency vehicles in China under the Buick nameplate, which is especially popular there. Earlier this month, Buick introduced two other electric models for the Chinese market: the Velite 6 plug-in hybrid and the Velite 6 EV. Buick’s EV lineup in China also includes the Regal Hybrid, the LaCrosse Hybrid, and the Velite 5 EV.
