For the moment, the cost of Cadillac's Super Cruise system means that the XT4 won't be receiving the technology

Why does Cadillac’s latest crossover not come packaged with Cadillac’s latest technology?

Roughly a week has passed since the 2019 Cadillac XT4 was first publicly introduced to the world, and discussion about the vehicle has certainly not died down. Among the many compliments addressed to the compact crossover is one question of contention: why is Cadillac Super Cruise not available for the XT4?

MotorAuthority approached representatives of Cadillac with this question. Said representatives assured MotorAuthority that Super Cruise would become available for the XT4…eventually. For now, the semi-autonomous technology will not be an option for Cadillac’s latest crossover.

A Hands-Free Driving System: Cadillac Super Cruise

This was first confirmed by Cadillac spokesman Donny Nordlicht. Cadillac’s president Johan de Nysschen later backed up the claim.

“Super Cruise will eventually make it into XT4,” de Nysschen told MotorAuthority. “It’s part of what we do.”

For now, Cadillac customers will have to dish out quite a bit of cash for semi-autonomous technology

According to de Nysschen, the main barrier preventing Super Cruise from being added to the XT4 is the cost of the system. Several of the components packaged with Super Cruise, including Magnetic Ride Control suspension, can cost quite a bit of money.

Currently, the Super Cruise system is only available for the Cadillac CT6. To add Super Cruise technology to the CT6, customers must pay an additional $5,000.

Furthermore, Super Cruise can only be added to the top two trim levels of the Cadillac CT6. The less expensive of these two trim levels, the Cadillac CT6 Premium Luxury, still starts around $65,295, and that’s before Super Cruise is added.

Where You Can Find Super Cruise: Cadillac Super Cruise Technology coming to CT6

The Cadillac XT4 was spotted with camera and sensors used by the Super Cruise system during the vehicle’s testing period. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that Cadillac designed the utility vehicle with the ability to interact with the Super Cruise system.

However, it would seem that for the moment being, Cadillac Super Cruise will be limited to some of Cadillac’s most expensive vehicle models.
