Cadillac Officially Cancels Production for the ATS Sedan
Production for the ATS Coupe is set to continue through the 2019 model year

Despite low sales numbers, the Cadillac ATS Sedan has acquired something of a following among many automotive enthusiasts since it was introduced during the 2012 model year. Yet because of those low sales numbers, the end is near for the ATS.
Cadillac has confirmed that the Cadillac ATS Sedan will be discontinued at the end of the 2018 model year.
ATS Advantages: Cadillac ATS a best buy for new drivers
The cancellation of the ATS sedan should come as no surprise. Cadillac has already confirmed that the ATS, CTS, and XTS will be replaced with two new sedans, the CT5 and a yet-unnamed model, at some point in the near future.
Nevertheless, many are shocked to see the ATS be the first one to go and for its demise to arrive so soon. Even more distressing for thrill-seekers is the confirmation that the Cadillac ATS-V Sedan is also on the chopping block.
“Production of the ATS sedan is ending due to extensive plant upgrades, expansion and re-tooling to prepare for the next generation of Cadillac sedans,” explained Cadillac spokesman Donny Nordlicht.
Redefining Refinement: Updates to 2018 Cadillac models
Last year, Cadillac only manged to sell 13,100 ATS sedan and coupe models. That accounted for a 39% sales decline.
Yet, sales for the ATS are reportedly up 7.4% this year. Unfortunately, this was not enough to save the ATS Sedan.
For the time being, drivers can still get their hands on a Cadillac ATS Coupe
ATS fans have been offered a ray of hope. Cadillac has confirmed that production for the ATS Coupe will continue into the 2019 model year.
The Cadillac ATS Sedan was consistently praised for its spirited drive and expert handling, rivaling that of even BMW’s top-of-the-line sedans. On the other hand, critics and consumers found the back row of the ATS to be cramped and uncomfortable, and many of the vehicle’s interior aesthetics didn’t quite capture a luxurious feel.
Ultimately, fans of sedans will undoubtedly be sad to see another one leave the market as SUVs and crossovers continue to dominate the current automotive environment.
