August was not the fairest of months for the automotive industry to the degree that it was almost a uniform off month for luxury brands in China. Cadillac’s sales totaled 22,799 vehicles in August, down 5.9% year-over-year, but its performance through the first three-quarters of the year remains strong nonetheless.

To date, Cadillac sales around the globe are up 1.3% with a total of 174,389 vehicles sold. Sales in China continue to trend upward, up 7.8% through August, and sales have also been on the rise in other key markets including Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East.

“We remain disciplined in our strategy to build the brand long-term,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “Led by our increasing product excellence, we’re following our plan of strengthening the core business and elevating the brand. In the last few weeks we have begun shipping the acclaimed new V-Series cars, to customers eagerly awaiting these high performance cars from Cadillac.”

Sales of the SRX and ATS were up 30.2% and 13.4% in August, respectively. The SRX’s sales boost is largely attributable to another big month in the United States, while the ATS continues to be a big draw in China and the Middle East.

The United States remains Cadillac’s largest market by far with sales totaling 110,791 vehicles sold. China is a solid second with a record 49,186 vehicles sold through eight months.
