California is looking to bring vintage back. The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced earlier this week that an old-school license plate will soon be available to car-lovers everywhere. This vintage license plate was made available thanks to a bill that Mike Gatto, a Californian Assemblyman and car enthusiast, passed in 2012, focusing on the reintroduction of three vintage Californian license plates.

To bring back the three vintage license plate designs, each license plate had to have 7,500 orders before it could enter production. As the time frame for orders has come to a close, this bill will help only one of the Golden State’s old license plates to return to the open road.

The first vintage plate available to the public is the state’s old-school yellow-on-black style. This bumblebee-like plate was originally issued from 1963 to 1969 and will be arriving out on the road later this month. To get these retro plates, drivers had to put down the $50 issuance fee before January 1, 2015. Those consumers who previously put down the money for either the yellow-with-black-text or blue-with-yellow-text will be refunded their money.

“Aside from not salting our roads, California doesn’t often do much for automobile enthusiasts,” said Gatto in a press release. “This is an easy way for the state to enable everyone from the backyard restorer, to the nostalgic, to the purchaser of a retro-styled automobile to add that extra bit of detail for those of us who appreciate the classic era of automobile design.”

The yellow-on-black style license plate can be ordered now by California citizens on the Californian DMV website.
