Car News In the Rearview: Ferrari Wins, But Ain’t Nobody Happy
Welcome to In the Rearview, where I, somewhat grumpily this week, give you the rundown of the to car news of the previous week.
First of all, it turns out electric cars are cleaner compared to most gas cars, even in areas where they burn coal for power. Proof is now here with charts.
Then, despite being dirty, dirty cheaters, VW has stayed in the top two vehicle sellersĀ in the world. Now, though, it seems to be slipping, because Nissan kicked them down to number three, probably thanks to the acquisition of lesser dirty dirty cheater Mitsubishi.
In tech news, I was reminded that although GM’s Teen Driver software might be easily used to strenuously helicopter some parenting, if used right teens can actually appreciate its reminders.
In legal news, a Supreme Court case on whether or not you can make a device to refill ink cartridges has made it so that it will not be possible for automakers to one day get angry with you for modifying your car.
Then, the Monaco Grand Prix ended with a 1-2 victory for Ferrari, but the fans aren’t happy because they think the brand gave the edge to the first-place finisher, despite what normally should have happened.
In safety news, studies show that SUVs are safer than small cars. Go figure.
Over in India, a new bus line from Coimbatore to Chennai is catering exclusively to women to protect them from gang attack. I don’t have anything to say on that right now, but it seems India is a really bad place to be a woman.
Finally, Nissan did a very nice thing for some seniors in Brazil who just lost their licenses by taking them for a wild ride and drive in a GT-R. It made me misty.
