Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman has already jumped out of an airplane this off-season, so when you hear he’s been driving real NASCAR racecars at speeds of more than 150 mph, it just doesn’t seem like that big a deal.

“I don’t know what they had in the engine,” Norman said during a mock interview after completing six laps around Charlotte Motor Speedway. “I heard it was 800 horsepower, but whatever it was – that’s some good stuff.”

The NFL cornerback was taking part in the NASCAR Racing Experience, in which people can drive real racecars previously driven by NASCAR drivers. Norman drove all by himself, without an instructor, while communicating through an electronic headset with a guide as he passed slower cars around the 1.5-mile speedway. Norman drove a No. 24 Chevrolet to match his jersey number with the Panthers.

Besides sky diving and driving racecars, Norman has also ridden in speed boats and went snow skiing earlier this off-season. Norman is entering the last year of his contract with Carolina and is due a big pay raise next season, but that looming payday hasn’t caused him to play it safe this off-season, as he jokingly talked about replacing NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 Chevrolet SS after he retires at the end of this season.

“The only thing I had to slow down for is the cars that I had to pass,” said Norman. “If (Seattle Seahawks QB) Russell Wilson can do baseball, then I don’t see why I can’t do NASACR.”
