This is my most favorite Carpool Karaoke screencap EVER

It’s an open secret that we love Carpool Karaoke here at The News Wheel. Or at least Caitlin and I do, since we’re the ones that seem to report on it the most. Well, this month our love for the popular segment of The Late Late Show With James Corden was validated when it took home an Emmy Award all by itself.

If you’re wondering how that is even possible, The Los Angeles Times explains that Carpool Karaoke was nominated on its own thanks to a special that aired this season on CBS. The special took the series’ most popular guests and turned it into a piece of television in its own right. That made it eligible to be nominated in the Variety Special category.

This award might seem like it’s not a big deal, especially considering that Last Week Tonight ultimately won Outstanding Variety Talk Series, but you need to look at Corden’s competition in the special category. The Carpool Karaoke special, made up of the segment’s best guests and capped off with unseen video from Corden’s ride with Jennifer Lopez, managed to beat Adele, Amy Schumer, Beyoncé, and the Kennedy Center Honors, which featured Aretha Franklin.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about this Emmy win. I mean, on one hand, I love the candid and fun atmosphere of Carpool Karaoke, and I always look forward to new segments. On the other hand, this special made up of recycled content just beat out three of today’s most powerful performers and one absolute legend. I mean, did the Emmy voters even watch Beyoncé’s Lemonade?

On the bright side, maybe this Emmy win will mean even more high-profile stars will be willing to jump in the passenger seat of Corden’s SUV. Although, we’re not quite sure how he’ll top having Michelle Obama in the car, unless Barack decides to join in.
