Carpool Karaoke White House 2

It’s no secret that America loves Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden. From pop divas, to rock bands, to Broadway stars, many different performers have sat in the passenger seat of James Corden’s SUV. This week’s segment, featuring First Lady Michelle Obama, might take the cake for being the most exciting, though.

James Corden’s cruise onto the White House grounds was a bit stressful, but the smile was back on his face when Michelle Obama “surprised him” and slid into the passenger seat. Like we guessed earlier in the week, it appears as if Corden and Obama only cruised around the grounds of the White House, avoiding Washington DC traffic. The lack of changing scenery, though, didn’t put a damper on the ride, as both the host and First Lady rocked out the car, starting with Stevie Wonder classic “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” as Mrs. Obama relished being able to control the radio for pretty much the first time in seven-and-a-half years.

When asked what she will miss most about her time at the White House, the First Lady responded that it would be the people she got to know and work with. Corden tried to get her to admit to calling downstairs at 3am for room service, but she said it was only every once in a while. James admitted that he would have a standing late-night order, to which Michelle responded that she knew what 3am phone call he was prepared for, playing off the classic election ad that asked which candidate you would want picking up an emergency phone call in the wee hours of the morning.

After discussing Secret Service code names (Michelle Obama is Renaissance, Barack Obama is Renegade), Michelle got serious to talk about her upcoming trips overseas to promote the Let Girls Learn initiative. Corden turned on the upbeat “This is for My Girls” single that was released to raise money for the campaign, and includes artists like Missy Elliott, Kelly Rowland, Zendaya, and more. To help in the sing-along, Missy Elliot herself hopped into the car. If you have Missy Elliot in the car, you have to sing her classic hit “Get Ur Freak On”, and Missy Elliott was very impressed at the rapping displayed by the First Lady and James Corden.
