Opel’s CarUnity, a car-sharing app that launched in June, is already up to 5,000 registered users as of the end of July. Nearly 1,500 cars are available to share, the majority of which are in the Rhine-Main area in Germany, and that number is expected to increase exponentially over the next several months.

“We initially focused our marketing efforts on the Rhine-Main area. Now we will up the ante all over Germany. We will be targeting the Berlin metropolitan area next and will intensify our commitment there,” said Dr. Jan Wergin, Director Opel Community Carsharing. “That is why expanding to the German capital is the next logical step to take for CarUnity. We are optimistic that our concept will be just as successful in Berlin as it is in the Rhine-Main area.”

In July, Opel also secured a stake in flinc, a ride-sharing platform. This will allow for a greater expansion of the preexisting partnership between flinc and CarUnity, allowing Opel to further its progress toward becoming the foremost provider of mobility services in the region.

CarUnity, with the motto “Better off sharing,” makes Opel the first car manufacturer to offer car-sharing that is not brand-exclusive. Any vehicle can be used as part of the program, opening the door to wider adoption.
