CEO Profiles: Mitsubishi’s Takehiko Kakiuchi

Mitsubishi’s journey began in 1870; the company has changed paths a handful of times as it has existed in three different centuries. It began as a shipping company in Japan, equipped with three steamships. Today, Mitsubishi continues to operate its headquarters out of Japan and sells its vehicles in countries all over the world.
Background
Before his time at Mitsubishi, Takehiko Kakiuchi remained largely out of the public eye. However, he attended Kyoto University for his undergraduate degree.

Takehiko Kakiuchi joined the Mitsubishi Corporation in April of 1979. He worked his way up the company ladder, receiving a promotion to Senior Vice President and chief operating officer (COO) of the Foods Commodity Division in April 2010.
One year later, Kakiuchi took on an additional role at Mitsubishi: Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Living Essential Group. By tackling both divisions at once, he was able to prove himself and move into higher executive roles, receiving a promotion to Executive Vice President in 2013.
In 2016, Takehiko Kakiuchi was named President and CEO of Mitsubishi. Two months later, he became a member of the company’s Board of Directors alongside the company’s previous CEO, Ken Kobayashi.
Other Endeavors
In addition to his work at Mitsubishi, Takehiko Kakiuchi sits on the Board of Directors at several different companies, including Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lawson Inc., and the Nisshin OilliO Group.
