If you are a close observer of news and current events, you may have noticed this past year that everything was terrible all of the time.

Every musician, actor, famous person, and Wham! lead singer that you’ve ever loved died unexpectedly. Also, there was a presidential election between the two most unpopular presidential candidates in history and, due to this one weird rule that governs our nation’s democratic system, the less popular of the two actually won. Also, my dog died, which didn’t have any far-reaching geopolitical consequences, but was still very sad.

So yeah, 2016 was a horrible, terrible, no-good year. But would it make you feel better to know that some popular car brands really enjoyed the last 365 days?

No? Not even a little bit? Well, they did, and they’re not being shy about it.

Just a week after Honda announced that it had enjoyed a really great 2016, Chevrolet has now chimed in to say that, yeah, they really enjoyed the past 365 days, too.

The boast comes in the form of a “Year in Review” video that Chevrolet just recently put out:

“It’s been a great year at Chevrolet,” the video begins by saying, choosing not to note that it’s been terrible everywhere else.

What follows is a montage of the things that made 2016 so great for Chevrolet, which included the release of new models, the winning of major awards, and a bunch of marketing schemes.

I have to take issue with the latter, by the way. Included in this video are Chevy’s hypocritical “rock drop” commercial, its inaccurate “Real People, Not Actors” commercials, its cloying #DayItForward campaign, and its pandering Facebook likes stunt.

Maybe all those things helped make 2016 great for Chevy, but they certainly made it even more insufferable for me.
