Chevrolet recently revitalized a Bang Bua School playground in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok, Thailand, providing children in the area with a new community football pitch. The American automaker says it built the pitch as part of the bowtie brand’s ongoing commitment to demonstrate that, “where there’s play, there’s beautiful possibilities.”

The outdoor pitch has created a place to play in the crowded district, and provides a safe haven for kids as a venue for local events and sports matches.

“This pitch will create sustainable opportunities for play for the children of Bangkok especially those at Bang Bua School,” said Tim Zimmerman, the president of GM Southeast Asia Operations. “Play leads to possibilities, and this pitch will provide more and better opportunities for the local community to interact and come together. And alongside our great partners with Manchester United and One World Play Project, today is a landmark moment for this community and the possibilities that lie ahead.”

Legendary Manchester United striker Louis Saha was onsite for the pitch ceremony which took place Friday, April 24, 2015. Saha talked about lessons he learned on and off the football pitch, and discussed the importance of play, while also providing the children in attendance with football tips and tricks.

The World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT), a Christian development and humanitarian organization that develops the lives of children and families in conflict areas, led the football pitch’s revitalization.

“World Vision Foundation of Thailand has been helping the poor children of Bang Bua community for over a decade,” said WVFT National Director Chitra Thumborisuth.

“Around 990 children from the community attend Bang Bua School, which could not support sports activities since it had only one cement playground,” Thumborisuth added. “On behalf of Bang Bua School and community, we would like to thank Chevrolet for this beautiful football pitch. Children from near and far can spend their free time constructively here, exercising with friends. They will not fall prey to drugs and violence which plague this community.”

Chevy also donated Chevrolet-branded One World Futbols to the Bang Bua School. The gift was part of the automaker’s three-year pledge to give 1.5 million Chevrolet-branded One World Futbols to young people in war-zones, refugee camps, disaster areas, and other underprivileged communities all around the world.

So far, Chevy has delivered more than 24,000 of the ultra-durable footballs to the country of Thailand, and nearly 1.4 million around the globe.
