After an extremely successful month in September, Chevy's sales returned to previous trends of decline in October

The Bolt just had its best sales month ever

In September, Chevrolet shattered market expectations with a sales increase of 17.4%, partially fueled by the aftermath of recent floods, fires, and hurricanes. For October, sales were once again on a decline, albeit only by a relatively small amount. Chevy’s sales for October were down by 3.8%. Last month, Chevrolet sold 175,110 vehicles. During October of 2016, the automaker sold 181,964 vehicle models.

Big winners in the Chevrolet lineup included the Impala and the Equinox. Impala sales were up by 24.1%, although the vehicle’s year-to-date sales are still down by 27.2%.

Meanwhile, the latest generation of Equinox models continues to impress. Chevy sold 25,272 Equinox vehicles last month, resulting in a 28.5% sales increase for the SUV.

However, the true success story for Chevrolet in October would have to be its new EV: the Chevrolet Bolt. The Bolt EV experienced its best sales month ever, with a total of 2,781 units sold. Year-to-date, the Bolt has now outsold its Volt cousin. While Bolt sales total 17,083 vehicles throughout 2017, Chevrolet has sold a total of 16,710 Volt models.

Trucks like the Silverado seem to be a popular choice among contemporary drivers

October was a big month for trucks, and this is true for the Chevy Silverado, too. Silverado sales were up by 6.8%, with a total of 53,157 units sold. Chevy’s lineup of commercial trucks is also on the rise. The automaker sold 696 of its commercial models in October, compared to the 286 models its sold the previous October.

It’s not all good news for Chevrolet, however. One of the largest losses originates with the Chevy Sonic, with sales down by 66.4%. Meanwhile, after a strong start, the latest Chevrolet Cruze is beginning to lose sales. Chevrolet sold more Malibus last month than it did Cruze models.

So far for 2017, Chevrolet has sold a total of 1,691,302 vehicles, making it one of the best-selling brands in the country. This is only a 1.3% decline compared to the impressive numbers Chevrolet maintained through the first 10 months of 2016.
