2017 Chevrolet Bolt

The Chevrolet Bolt has only been out for a little over a month, and its awards cabinet must be on the brink of collapse. It has picked up “car of the year” awards from several organizations, including the Detroit Free Press and the North American Car of the Year Awards. It has won green car awards, best car to buy awards, and best EV awards.

However, the Bolt will have to scootch some trophies over to make room for a new kind of award, as the new electric vehicle has also picked up the award of Tech Car of the Year from Autoblog.

The editors at Autoblog note that the competition for this title was close, as the little semi-crossover was up against the advanced-hybrid Acura NSX, as well as the technologically-packed Mercedes-Benz E-Class. However, despite the excellence of the former’s powertrain or the diversity of the latter’s features (including self-driving capabilities), Autoblog ended up choosing the Chevrolet Bolt anyway.

According to the editors, this is because the Bolt has the greatest potential. Specifically, they wrote that the Bolt “is a car that can truly democratize electric vehicles.” Further, they described the EV as a big step forward in technology, as it doubles most available EV’s range at an affordable price, giving it a value that gives it the potential to affect the greatest number of people. Finally, the editors praised it for needing little adjustment to driving style to operate, providing a “comfortable entry into a new gas-free world.”
