Chevrolet Cuts to Heart of Silverado-vs-F-150 Debate in “Saws” Video

When you hear that the latest Silverado commercial involves Chevy “taking someone to the woodshed,” you might start to worry that the bowtie brand has gotten a bit overzealous in its attempts to reform Ford F-150 supporters. Don’t worry—the truck wars haven’t quite gotten to that point yet.

In a new video posted today, Chevrolet asks a focus group of woodworkers to choose between cutting a 2×8 with a handsaw or a power saw… and you WON’T BELIEVE which one they pick!! (Just kidding, you totally will):

Turns out, the handsaw-vs-power tool conundrum is a metaphor for the Silverado-vs-F-150 debate. The 2016 Chevy Silverado is the power tool in this analogy, since its available best-in-class 6.2-liter V8 engine yields 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque (while the F-150, presumably, is powered by sticking one’s legs through the floorboard and pedaling, à la the Flintstones’ car).

Plus, according to a sampling of real people who aren’t actors (or maybe are), the Silverado just looks “badass.”

Personally, I think this video titled “Saws” is a decent bit of advertising. But what I’m really looking forward to is the sequel, “Saws II,” in which Mary “Jigsaw” Barra traps eight F-150 drivers in an abandoned warehouse and subjects them to a torturous series of “games.”

Now that would be some viral marketing.
