During yesterday’s Corvette Z06 and Corvette C7.R reveal at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, General Motors’ CFO Dan Ammann revealed that Chevrolet global sales in 2013 broke the brand’s previous record. Specifically, Chevrolet moved just shy of 5 million units (4,984,126 vehicles) across the globe throughout the year, enjoying considerable gains in the United States, China, and Mexico.

“With 25 product launches around the world, including all-new versions of our most iconic nameplates – Corvette, Impala and Silverado – 2013 was a significant year for the Chevrolet brand,” said Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president, Global Chevrolet, in the brand’s press release.

Owning the lion’s share of Chevrolet global sales in 2013 was the United States, where 1,947,125 vehicles were sold. China, where more import vehicles sold than ever before in the country’s history, saw a total of 652,077 units moved. Brazil trailed only slightly with 649,792 units, and Mexico significantly increased its market share of Chevrolet global sales in 2013 with a 7.6 percent jump.

2014 Chevy Cruze

Chevrolet’s best-selling global nameplate was once again the Cruze; more than 2.5 million Cruzes have sold since the nameplate’s 2008 launch.

Additionally, Chevrolet reports that the Sonic, Cruze, and Equinox all enjoyed best-ever sales years; and that its Volt goes down as 2013’s best-selling plug-in in the United States. With the Silverado 1500 and Stingray sweeping this year’s North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards and the world abuzz over the 2015 Corvette, it’s difficult not to predict continued success for the Bowtie in 2014.
