69 lucky racers will soon be able to replicate the Hot Wheels experience out on the drag strip

Chevrolet’s latest set of “Hot Wheels”

Ever since it was resurrected back in 2012, the COPO line of Chevy Camaros has been an elusive, yet highly desired choice among drag racers. For the 2018 rendition of the COPO Camaro, Chevrolet is promoting the vehicle alongside one of its other upcoming special edition Camaro options. The American automaker revealed that the 2018 COPO Camaro will be offered with the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition package.

The 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition was unveiled alongside the new COPO Camaro model. This specialized Camaro package, the result of a collaboration between Chevy and Hot Wheels, replicates the Hot Wheels look and feel on a larger scale, with specialized badging and a custom “Supercrush” orange exterior color.

That same package can be applied to the drag-racing focused COPO Camaro for the 2018 model year. Chevrolet is also adding a new 302 Gen V Small Block racing engine, based on the LT1 engine of the 2018 Chevy Camaro SS, as a powertrain option for the COPO model.

When it comes to drag racing, choosing the “supercharged” engine seems like a no-brainer

Of course, most racers will probably want to opt for the 350 5.7-liter supercharged racing engine while out on the track. With this engine equipped, the COPO Camaro can reach speeds of 160 mph and achieve a mid-eight-second quarter-mile out on the strip.

As always, the COPO Camaro will be limited to just 69 units for the 2018 model year. Customers can register to purchase the model now through November 30 on Chevrolet’s official site, with the lucky 69 customers selected from the pool at random by an independent third party.

The COPO nameplate, referencing the Central Office Production Order system, is inspired by the first collection of drag-centric Camaros, developed back in 1969. Illinois dealer Fred Gibb took advantage of the aforementioned ordering system to offer drag-racing models of the Camaro to his customers. Several other dealers followed suit, bringing the total number of customized Camaros to 69, a number Chevy has immortalized with its consistently limited supply.

The 2018 COPO Chevrolet Camaro will appear alongside the special Hot Wheels 2017 Camaro at next week’s SEMA Auto Show. Meanwhile, 69 lucky Chevrolet enthusiasts will likely make an upcoming appearance of their own at their local drag strip, behind the wheel of the latest COPO Camaro model.
