As we have talked about a few different times, Chevrolet has been pretty low-key about where it was going to be selling the Bolt EV once it was ready to be shipped out. Now, it seems that one of the places to receive the Bolt early next year will be a country which the brand had previously only admitted to considering as a market: South Korea.

GM Korea President and CEO James Kim officially announced and confirmed that the long-range EV would be launched in South Korea in the first half of 2017, adding, “The Bolt EV truly embodies the ingenuity that is at the core of everything we do at Chevrolet.” These comments were made at the Korea Electronics Show in Seoul.

Previously, a GM spokesman said that the company was only “studying” whether or not to offer the vehicle in South Korea.

Kim also made sure to note that the Bolt’s 238-mile range is more than enough to travel from the capital to Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city.

Of course, not much detail was given for the release, other than the fact of the Bolt’s introduction in 2017. Kim said that local pricing and availability would be announced at a later date after the long-range electric hatchback makes its way from the Orion assembly plant in Michigan to South Korea, since the vehicle won’t be assembled or partly assembled in the country. This is despite much of the EV being developed in conjunction with Korean battery maker LG Electronics.
